UX Challenge: A Huntington Park based hair stylist has just opened a new hair salon business in the past year. As her customer base has grown, the salon owner is having trouble organizing her work schedule and keeping track of her client’s services. She would like an easier way to manage her appointments as well as advertise herself and her services in a more efficient manner.

Proposed design solution
Salon website for mobile and desktop web
Consumer-facing will serve as scheduling for salon services for clients and display catalog of services with images
Internal website for stylists will display schedule of appointments along with client information

Defining the “what”: Who is this for? What does this site need to be able to do?
I began this project by creating a focus group with the salon’s stylists (which included the owner) and 5 of her regular clients. I limited this focus group to users I believe would benefit and interact the most with this first iteration of the website. From our focus group conversations, I created a Venn diagram (Figure 1a) to see where the 2 main user types coincide with their needs and create an outline of the must-haves for the first version of this website

Figure 1a: Venn Diagram to help identify most needed requirements for the site.
MVP outline

Consumer-facing and internal (stylist) website
Consumer-facing will serve as scheduling for salon services for clients and display catalog of services with images
Internal website for stylists will display schedule of appointments along with client information
